GTA 6: Release Date, Gameplay & Everything We Know

GTA 6 is the most anticipated game of the decade. Rockstar Games has confirmed a November 19, 2026 release, and details continue to emerge. Here's everything we know.
Release Date and Delay History
GTA 6's release date is set for November 19, 2026. The road here has been long: initially planned for 2025, the game was first pushed to May 2026, then again to November 2026. Take-Two Interactive justified these delays with the desire to "deliver the best game possible."
Platforms
GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch versions. The PC version will likely arrive later, following Rockstar's typical pattern — GTA 5 took nearly two years to reach PC after consoles.
Protagonists: Lucia and Jason
For the first time in the series, GTA 6 features a dual protagonist setup: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Inspired by Bonnie & Clyde, they form a criminal couple whose relationship evolves throughout the game. Players can switch between them during missions, each with their own skills and playstyle.
Lucia is the franchise's first female protagonist. Jason is an ex-military man from the Leonida Keys.
Vice City and the State of Leonida
The game takes place in Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by contemporary Florida. The setting is the 2020s, with sharp satire of social media, influencers, and modern American culture.
Leonida comprises 6 distinct regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Engine and Technology
GTA 6 runs on a deeply improved RAGE engine with real-time lighting, unprecedented facial animations, and dynamic weather.
Marketing and Pre-orders
Rockstar confirmed a marketing campaign starting summer 2026. Pre-orders aren't open yet. Estimated price: $69.99 standard.
